Paper 3 was the component I found most challenging because the specialist option essays required me to describe and evaluate both biological and psychological explanations for the same condition and I kept writing descriptive answers that earned knowledge marks but lost all the evaluation marks because I was not comparing the explanations or weighing their relative strengths. Professor K taught me a structured essay method where I would present one explanation with its supporting evidence, then present the alternative explanation with its evidence, and then write an evaluative paragraph that compared the two using criteria like scientific rigour, practical applications, and reductionism versus holism. He was equally transformative with Paper 4 because he showed me how to read the applied research scenario carefully, identify which research method was being described, and then evaluate its strengths and weaknesses in the specific context of the specialist option topic. The research planning section became my strongest area because he taught me to connect every methodological choice to a clear justification based on the scenario. I achieved an A and I am certain that without his structured approach to both specialist option papers I would have struggled to get above a C.
